Sometimes you have to spring for a wedding cake baker who has BOTH eyes.

Ever wondered what a hideous wedding cake would look like if it had been crocheted?

Yeah, me neither. But now you know.

I actually like the first one.
It’s a Topsy Turvy cake and really, pretty well done.
I think it looks weird because the angle of the photo is slightly tilted and that really fugly wallpaper or whatever is there to make you dizzy.
It reminds me of a cake you would have at the Mad Hatter’s tea party from Alice in Wonderland. Except the actual cake would probably be more colorful.
I think that crocheted cake is fantastic, but then again I am a crocheter.
@Elliot
It is actually pretty good, but at the same time I think topsy-turvy cakes are generally more whimsical, instead of having the classic ruffles-and-flowers look.
These are both really well done. The first one is supposed to look like that, but as SleepyKitty said cakes like that are usually more whimsical. The bride and groom on the second look freaking, but the crochet on the cake is cute.
There are quite a few cakes made stacked in a tilted pile, but they don’t usually have bouquets of silk flowers and grapes trying to escape out from under every layer.
It would be much more impressive if the second cake was actually a cake you can eat instead of being crocheted out of yarn.
Good point, all three of you, though, being one more drawn toward the more bizarre, I like the Traditional-yet-non effect of the first cake.
I’ve seen actual edible cakes made to look like they were knitted!
It’s really neat.
The crocheted cake is from Corrine’s and Jesse’s wedding on OffbeatBride: http://offbeatbride.com/2009/08/alice-in-wonderland-wedding#more-2804
I actually think the 2nd “cake” is awesome.
Love the top one! I would totally get that at my wedding.
I love them both!
Hey! The little crochet bride and groom are from the “Creepy Cute Crochet” book. They’re the “skeletal bride and groom”. That’s adorable!
The creepy-cute cake makes my day, and I can’t wait to show it to my friends!
@Amber
I’m not a crocheter…but I’m a knitter and I also think its awesome.
The second one is kind of cute, but the first one is awful. Topsy-turvy cakes are generally supposed to have to have the layers themselves be slanted. These are standard round layers that have been tilted to one side. And those fake flowers, leaves, and GRAPES are awful and don’t match the cake in any way. Definite fail.
I also saw the crocheted cake on Offbeat Bride, and I’ve noticed that a couple of the other posts on this site were posted on Cake Wrecks long before they were posted here. People should give credit for these things instead of just posting anonymously.
And yes, I also love these cakes!
@Elly
I agree, actually, but … silly question — how are you to serve it to your guests?
wow the first 1 iz prty cool if you ask me,but the second is a waste of money
Huh. I thought topsy-turvy cakes (or sometimes called mad hatter cakes) were really popular. I see them on a lot of cake blogs and have for years now. I see nothing wrong with this one except maybe the camera angle.
The second one, the cake topper is adorable!
Is the second cake just a huge croquet piece or an actual edible cake with croquet texture?
If it’s the latter, then that looks like great talent!
Maybe they met and fell in love playing Little Big Planet.

Is there nobody here who thinks a crocheted cake is stupid? Yea, maybe it takes hella talent, but how ya supposed to eat it? Hell, half the fun of weddings is the food, the other half is the booze.
wow. and ANOTHER offbeat bride rip-off. “OffbeatBridenator” indeed.
I have been thinking about it, and now I realize–I wish that second cake was a lamp shade, and I could keep it in my living room all the time. It’s beyond darling into the ridiculously darling arena . . .
