My wife sold her dress on eBay. Then we bought a piece of furniture to hold our wedding china. Destroying assets or “pickling” a dress to preserve it are silly.

I just got married and we jumped in the pool after the ceremony. I spent $550 getting my dress made – a velvet top with a skirt of 50 yards of tulle. I took the velvet off and wore a black bathing suit under the tulle skirt… And it didn’t get trashed. I swam with it until it was a bit tangling then it was taken and hung up to dry. It is in perfect shape. Even if it had been ruined, it was a fun thing to do and a bit of a surprise to everyone. This was not a planned event. We were going to go swimming but in proper gear… it just came over us to do it in our wedding outfits. (My husband wore jeans and a linen shirt so his clothes were fine too.

Your money, your dress, your memories… It’s not a slap in the face to anyone for a couple to play on their wedding day.

Exactly! It’s much less wasteful to spend thousands of dollars on a dress and services to preserve it so that it can spend the rest of its existence in a box under your bed.

I love this trend! I’d much rather buy a cheaper dress and trash it than buy an expensive one only to let it take up space in the closet. I don’t really think of a wedding dress as being a long-term investment.
