I would make a comment about how tasty shark fin is but those aren’t sharks those are tampons.

Yup, they can drown. In fact they swim when they sleep too, or make sure they are somewhere where current can flow thru their gills/

sharks do drown, if they can’t swim. they need to swim to keep water moving over their gills to breath.. so without their top fins.. they drown. Or are ravaged to death by sharks with fins. either way… horrible.

The fish could be carp, which are considered particularly good luck in Japan… Still not particularly asthetically pleasing, but it would make some sense, if that were the case!
