Judging by the look on this bride’s face, I’m not the only one who doesn’t want Avril Lavigne jabbing a flintlock in my face on my wedding day. I can’t tell if the bride’s husband is the pirate standing to her right or if that’s just some random dude hijacking her wedding. Either way, it doesn’t appear that she’s wacky enough to conduct the ceremony in Pirate Speak, which is a real shame.

I totally would. Hell, I’m planning my wedding right now! Maybe I will!
Now all we need is a ninja wedding. Oh, wait…
- Knock knock.
- Who’s there?
- Interrupting pirate
- Interrupt —
- YARRRRR!
Is in this in Brisbane, Australia by any chance?
I went to school with her! I’m guessing the wedding was in Sydney.
I know that in Finland it’s common practice at weddings to “steal the bride”. So at one point during the reception, a “band of thugs” (usually friends of the married couple) come take her away for an hour or two. The groom then has to find her, or sometimes pay a “ransom”, for which he makes money by performing for the wedding guests. Occasionally the bride stealers are dressed as pirates, western style bandits, what have you.
It’s meant to be a reference to the olden times, when brides were frequently literally stolen from their family homes and forced to be married.
It’s a very strange tradition, I’ll give you that.
I don’t see the problem – it’s obviously an FSM wedding. May you be touched by His noodly appendage.
Was this in Sydney???? The coat on the left of the picture looks familiar….. Anyone who gets their wedding pictures taken on International Talk Like a Pirate Day has a chance of having a few surprise drunken pirates in the pictures.
Also looks remarkably similar to the pirates in Warsaw who kidnap tourists and hold them hostage until you pay the “ransom”!
If only all bridesmaids were so comitted to the ceremony as this lass.
It is perfectly normal to have a pirate themed wedding… the wife and I did it a couple of years back and all the guests got dressed up… Who wants a boring traditional wedding anyways?
Umm no Avril?
They should have done it….
- Bride points flintlock at groom.
- Three groomsmen point back at the bride.
- Groom points flintlock at maid/matron of honour.
- Matron of honour points one flintlock at a groomsman and the other at the bride.
- Best man points his two flintlocks at two different bridesmaids.
- Bridesmaid points one at another bridesmaid, and the other one at the best man.
… or something like this… at the end of it all, there are flintlocks (or similar guns) pointing everywhere.
