I know Naruto is a hugely popular manga series but I’ve never seen it. And now I’m looking at this picture and feeling really, really confused. And envious of the officiant’s hair. Can someone please explain to me what’s happening in this picture? KTHX!

Acutally this is a REAL marriage. The two are part of a group called koi cosplay, and yes the Kakashi standing in the background is a real preist, if you want proof you can check out their youtube channel, or deviantart channel!
Something about this makes me think it’s a posed cosplay shot- probably re-enacting a peice of naru/sasuke fanart or something along those lines.

I think getting married among teen girls who squeal at two girls dressed as two boys is more of an epic fail.
If there were any squealing teen girls, yes, it would be. But there were no teen girls as the con is an 18+ only con. And everybody respected them enough to leave them alone during the ceremony. So epic fail it is not.
Who cares about symantics? It stands to reason that if they were really getting married, they would have to be at least 18. However, as with most girls I’ve met in the last 3 years, 18 is the new 15 so it isn’t saying much. Regardless, two chicks with serious issues got married dressed as freaking cartoon characters. They fail at life.
Some could say that you fail at life by thriving off putting down others. Anonymously. On the Internet. Really. I admire the courage of the participants for doing this, knowing that some idiot would make fun of them for having a non-conservative approach at marriage.

I just want to add on here: I have talked to AntiquityDreams. This was her and her fiancee’s wedding before gay marriage was legal. They held the ceremony, but weren’t considered legally married. Then, gay marriage became legal in the state of california, and a week later, they were officially married. She nearly had a heart attack when some dumb people moved to have gay marriage abolished. Happily, gay marriage is still a right, and they are still blissfully married. ^_^ So happy for them.
Actually, this was their real wedding. Their names are Raven and Sabrina and they got married at Yaoi Con 07 dressed as naruto and sasuke. Kakashi is a certified priest.

For everyone who doesn’t know, this if from KoiCosplay at Yaoi-con. This is Naruto and Sasuke getting married with Kakashi as the priest. I never cared to figure out whether it was acctually a wedding or not but it doesn’t really matter. They are both girl and are 20+ in age.
The girl in the dress is actuall cosplaying as Sasuke, not Hinata. And yes all 3 of them are girls.

The Sasuke haircut and its variants is the unofficial hair style of queer women in their 20′s. Because most queer women don’t really do the butch thing so much these days, we have our haircuts, jewelry, and whatever else have you to be recognizable to each other. ^^
I’m preeeetty sure this is a cosplay. There’s tons of em over on deviantart. Though why people even like Naruto I’ll never know. There are so many other truly awesome animes out there, but people are just too lazy to watch them with subs and will instead wait and watch the cr@ppy ones they dub.

Yaoi and slash are the same thing. Boy love. Yaoi is always used when talking about, mainly, Japanese manga or anime. Slash is used for anything out of America.
*raises hand* I don’t profess to know much about either, but can slash not be yaoi? I was under the impression that slash was just pairings other than canon (I.E. Ishida Uryuu/Inoue Orihime in Bleach or Harry/Hermione from HP, as a couple examples of hetero slash) while yaoi is specifically guy-on-guy and sexual (Shounen-ai being guy slash that doesn’t go all the way)

Technically ‘yaoi’ is a Japanese acronym for Plot, What Plot?, but it’s come to mean general gayness. Though it still does tend to run more towards the R rated since Shonen-ai is the Japanese phrase for Boylove. But again, Yaoi has come to mean general M/M and not just pointless sex.
Slash is more generic in origins and can also be used for F/F pairings, though it’s usually written as Femslash so no one’s confused.
Sure it’s IN Japanese, but the Japanese actually use the term ‘BL’ for it all, meaning Boys Love, so really using ‘yaoi’ or ‘shounen-ai’ is just wannabe Japanese.

The actual phrase it’s based on is: “Yama nashi, ochi nashi, imi nashi”. Which is essentially: “No climax, no point, no meaning.” The “Yamete! Oshiri ga itai!” is a joke made by yaoi fans as an alternate meaning. ^_^ Hope that helped.

‘Yaoi’ is the Japanese term for boy love, just as ‘Yuri’ is girl love.
‘Slash’ is what the english speaking population calls it.
Yaoi started off as Slash. It started off in the 60s, was written/drawn by fans for fans and were sold at conventions. It wasn’t untill the 70s that it began to have original characters. It’s a genre that incorperates slash but doesn’t have to be slash.

No, I would say that this is a true wedding. Legally binding in the eyes of the state, no. But then, that doesn’t matter to them. And yes, this did happen at Yaoi-con, though it was 2007, not 2008. I know. I was at that con, and saw the wedding happening as I walked around the courtyard at the con.

I agree w/ a lot of the other comments. This is looks like a cosplay shot done for the Naruto/Sasuke fans. The fact that both “Naruto” and “Sasuke” are women drives that fact more in (women tend to be the Naruto cosplayers that do the BL attention scenes at conventions).
That is serious fail. The Kakashi is excellent, but lesbians cosplaying a yaoi “wedding” and then claiming it was a real wedding when it wasn’t legal when and where it happened is fail.

Hey i’m the Naruto, and this was our wedding back in 2007. It’s an hobby we met each other wearing, and so we decided to get married on our anniversary of meeting each other in the same outfits doing an official marriage.

Hinata is MADLY in love with Naruto, and Naruto SHOULD be madly in love with Hinata, but so far we don’t know. Kakashi is one of the adults and future hokages (leaders of the village) and such. I’m pretty sure this is just a cosplay photo-shoot, though.

Sasuke’s hair is pretty short, and with the veil it’s not quite as spikey, so I can see how people would confuse her with Hinata. (I cosplayed as Hinata this year and my hair was styled almost identical to hers).

At the time of this shoot, gay marriage was not legal in California. However, the Kakashi cosplayer is an ordained minister so while there was no official paperwork at the time, when the legislation for same sex marriage passed in California, all they had to do was fill out the paperwork and turn it in. And then Prop 8 passed.
I heart these two. Sasu has been a good friend of mine since high school and they’re happy together so who the heck cares? Since when to do we get to be judgmental about the happiness of others?

Just for anyone who is confused: the bride is a charecter named Sasuke and the groom is named Naruto. SasuNaru (Sasuke and Naruto) is a very commen yaoi (boy on boy) couple. The minister is Kakashi and the book he’s reading is “Icha Icha Paradise” which is an adult book that he is always reading. You would have to watch the anime for the whole story but I hope this helps. Oh, and by the way they are all NINJAS. haha
Actually I think the book Kakashi is reading is called “Make Out Tactics” but I’m not sure. I don’t have the covers memorized

Yes, it’s two girls. Yes, it’s Naruto and Sasuke. Yes, it’s legitimate….sort of. They consider their ceremony to be an actual one, refer to one another as “wife”, and one has even taken the other’s last name as their own. However, they never had their marriage legalized in the state of California, or anywhere else for that matter, not even during the short amount of time when same-sex marriages were being performed in San Francisco, which is really close to where they live. Don’t know why, it just didn’t happen.

Also, at that time homosexual marriage was illegal (still is I believe) so it’s not like they could have gone to a church anyway.
