Cinderella Wedding Sets Realistic Expectations For Life

Funny Wedding Photos - Cinderella Wedding Sets Realistic Expectations For Life

I hope this is a rich-people-wedding, because nothing is sadder than knowing a couple has spent every single penny they have on their wedding. You know the types — the ones featured on Bridezillas where the bride is like, “I WANTED THE 42-TIER CAKE!!! AND AN ORCHESTRA!!” and the groom is all, “But baby, I only make $31,000 a year. How do you expect me to afford that?” and you just know they’re hardly going to last five years of marriage. So sad. And yet, incredibly entertaining. I’m amused by others’ blunders, what can I say?

Oh my days, my auntie made that wedding dress. And no, she didn’t design it :L The girl is a traveller, their dresses are in general just ridiculously extravagant.

  2. samdescartes says:

Its a traveller’s wedding poor bride will be a teen who wanted a Cinderella wedding, the dresses etc are all custom done for them and seriously cost LOTS of money!

  3. Tom says:

I saw this on TV. Modern British gypsies have weddings like this.

  4. Voodoo says:

Someone rescue that man from the 817 yards of chiffon he’s buried under!!

She’ll be a widow before the wedding night, but doesn’t she look like a PRINCESS!!

  5. IAmStaggered says:

To be fair, at least this one has a traditional fairytale vibe, even if it appears it’s moments away from getting it’s hubcaps nicked.

Once again, this is Joan who was featured in “My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding.” Given that she’s an Irish Traveler, the marriage will likely last as long as the scars from that dress.

  7. phoenix says:

To be more fair, this is the same Traveller wedding that had the aqua feather boa-ish attendants that were featured in another post not too long ago.

She was one of three Traveller brides featured in the documentary “My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding.” This lady, in her early twenties, is considered old for a Traveller bride, and has unusually for their culture been holding down a job. But only to pay for this wedding.

But yeah, not a rich people wedding, just a wedding for a culture where a big showy wedding production is the norm.

  8. tettettet says:

This is a british Gypsy wedding, they are extravagant because the gypsy social life revolves around the weddings and that is where you meet your husband/bride, as they tend not to socialise/drink with non-travellers. They marry young and divorce is non existant in traveller culture, they will be together for life.

Prolly won’t work outside the UK but here is a link to the programme.

Link worked just fine outside UK. However, I am not curious enough to sign up just to watch it.

      • Shabbo says:

Again, not sure if this will work outside the UK, but My Big Fat GYpsy Wedding can be seen in full on YouTube, here:

You know, between the travelers and the chavs, I sincerely feel for UKers. Then again, we’ve got Juggalos and methheads in the US…

    • Dani says:

And the US has the highest concentration of twitards.

But the travelers aren’t bad people. Its their tradition to have extravagant weddings. But they aren’t promiscuous or nasty people. They stay together for life. But they get a bad reputation anyway. Hardly a fair comparison to any of the other groups mentioned.

I work as a TV sound recordist. We did a pilot a number of years ago for a reality show called “I Do, What’s it Gonna Cost Me?” We had a Bridezilla who bought literally EVERYTHING the guy in the bridal store showed her. Quickly he caught on and started showing her the most expensive thing in the store and she snapped it all up. Couldn’t choose between 3 pairs of shoes? She bought all three. She bought a $15,000 dress and SIX $3000 bridesmaids dresses. It was hysterical. The show arranged (of course) for the groom to show up once the buying frenzy was over and he asked her how much she spent. When she told him (and I forget but think the total tab was around $45,000) his head nearly blew off!

OK, this in itself is funny enough but the next day was the capper. They went to look at tuxedos. Now this guy, I felt, was a pretty stylish fellow. Always well dressed. He and his friends had spent quite a bit of time with the catalog choosing just the right outfit that they would feel comfortable in. She insisted on coming to the fitting and proceeded to nit pick every single item that he had chosen. She didn’t like the jacket, she didn’t like the tie, she didn’t like the shirt. Her comment on seeing the trousers was, “If I walk down the aisle and see stripes I’m walking right back out the door, mister!” Topping it off, she didn’t like his shoe selection. It’s important to note that he is the son of one of Italy’s most respected high fashion men’s shoe designers! His family knows shoes and she had the balls to criticize his taste in footwear!

So now finally he’s bowed down to every one of her choices, chosen tuxes for him and his six groomsmen. That’s not enough for her. He’s gotta rent tuxes for her dad, his dad, her little brother (ring bearer), assorted cousins and people not even directly connected to the wedding. All in all I think he had to rent 25 tuxes. OK, Fair enough. Tux rentals run $100-$200 each. Still a far cry from the $45K she spent. Is she satisfied? Not on your life. She opens her “Wedding Book” and goes to the tab for Tuxes and pulls out a 20% off coupon!

I gave the marriage about 5 years.

  12. Lori says:

This girl was featured in the video mentioned above. The thing that struck me most was how terrified she looked at her reception. She had only met the groom twice before their engagement and she had no idea where they were going to live after the wedding. (She was from England and he worked and lived in Ireland). A beautiful young girl with absolutely no idea of what she was getting into and clinging to her father. I felt terrible for her.

    • Shabbo says:

Yeah, I remember watching that, too. Poor girl, she looked so scared and sad. And they kept saying how OLD she was for a traveller bride – she was like 20!

  13. Theresa says:

Does that carriage look top-heavy on the left side to anyone? As though the groom (or others in the carriage) weighed twice as much as the bride?Looks like a carriage-malfunction soon to happen!

  14. [...] “Alfred Angelo is a collection of seven beautiful gowns designed for the stylish women who have grown up with the Disney princesses.” Hmm. OK. On the one hand, I’m thinking some of these gowns are pretty nice-looking. But on the other, I’m thinking, “For real, though?” [...]
