LCD Ring Box Trend: Super Awesome or Meh?

funny wedding photos - led ring

Now you can present the love of your life with a gorgeous ring and a multi-media presentation. The Ivy Carat Jewelry box from KJ Global Ltd. has a 2″ color LCD screen in the lid, 128 MB of memory and a USB rechargeable battery with a 1-2 hour life.  The jewelry box can play a sound file or display a .JPG.

At $126, the box doesn’t cost much in terms of money. But in terms of dignity, you might be at a major loss depending on how you use its capabilities. I mean it’s basically like a fancy version of those cheesy cards that were REALLY popular in the mid-90s and allowed you to record messages like “Happy Birthday, Grandpa!”. I wouldn’t necessarily want my ring box compared to that, but hey, at least it’s flashy. Ladies do love the bling.

  1. JB says:

I think it’s pretty cute actually, if you’re into electronics-type stuff :) . There are definitely MUCH worse wedding ring boxes out there….

  2. Laura E. says:

I think this would be practical in the cases of long-distance proposals (military girlfriends and whatnot). Everyday… a bit much.

  3. Bev says:

Good point Laura E. Maybe put the money spent on the box into a ring that will make her not notice the box.

  4. TB says:

    Cheese. No thanks.

  5. Mindianna Jones says:

BLECH! What kind of Gumball Machine did you get that from?!?

I think my CAPTAIN PLANET ring came in a similar box! GOOOO PLANET!

  6. Angela says:

Personally, I think it’s a adorable. I can totally see some really shy geek guy leaving that for his lady love.

Besides you could relive the moment of proposal as much as you wanted.

Wonder what else you could use it for…

  7. ChemEngChick says:

    I vote “meh”.

  8. Val says:

    Meh, as well.

I’d rather be staring at my ring than at some multimedia presentation. I have to look at Powerpoint enough during the day as it is, so no thanks!

  9. Fanboy Wife says:

$126 isn’t a lot of money? There are so many other things I could think of that I would rather have than a tiny box with a screen in it.

  10. the dark ferret says:

This could be pretty neat if it could play video or an animated gif – but it’s not worth it for a still jpg and a voice message.

  11. Cutie says:

    TACKY! TACKY! TACKY!!!

  12. Lin says:

I couldn’t care less about bling and I’m still a lady.

  13. Berderp says:

    Yeah… no thanks…

  14. Rattus says:

Tacky. And the rings held within those two boxes are actually pretty tacky as well.

  15. Libby says:

Guys-Please don’t. Just….No. Dumb, ugly, and distracting. If you need more than a ring in front of her face to convince her to say yes, just don’t.

  16. Clue says:

I’d say “Meh.” I can see how some would use it in a romantic way, but I don’t think the box should draw attention from the ring itself. It’s like having lights and horns and sirens, and not being able to hear someone whispering “will you marry me?”

  17. zhoen says:

I’m sure the 16 year olds will think this is wonderful. The ones who still think so when they are getting married, shouldn’t be getting married.

  18. Kay says:

I would be disappointed if I got this cheesy box, but I can see it being appropriate if both parties are really into computers or electronic gadgetry, and have a certain ironic fascination with kitsch or cheeze. Then the bride would probably get a kick out of it. This is most definitely not a welcome upgrade to the traditional box… for the sentimental types (like me) who want to have the silk-lined, traditional box to keep after the ring is on our finger, this sort of contraption would ruin the moment.

  19. Itarille says:

It’s cute, but honestly, I would have slapped my husband if he presented me with that. I like my inexpensive, understated ring and the box it came in.

  20. It distracts from the ring, which should be the main focus. I vote meh.

  21. Sarah says:

    Another “meh”, here.

  22. alli says:

Meh. It takes away from the ring, it’s super tacky, and $126 isn’t something I would wast on a little novelty item that I will barely be used.

  23. Ashley says:

You might be wondering why we gathered you here tonight. (check check). Besides Derek’s birthday. (check) check check (check) This proposal is brought to you by Prestige Worldwide (Prestige Worldwide…).

  24. KIMA06 says:

I’m actually thinking of getting this for my proposal. Being the techy person that I am, its not about the video. I’m going to add our favorite song to the box so when she opens it each day she is reminded of us.
