Your Wedding Cake Tastes Like Sand

Funny Wedding Photos - Your Wedding Cake Tastes Like Sand

Submitted by: Unknown

As if it wasn’t obvious enough already, I am not exactly a baker. Or a person who understands the intricacies and complexities of modern baking. So my first thought when looking at this cake was, “Hold up, *is* the top tier made of sand? Or is it just some super badass sand-looking icing/fondant something or other?” And to be honest, I’m still wondering! ‘Cause it looks like sand! At which point I have to wonder, who the hell wants sand touching any part of their wedding cake? You can have a beach-themed wedding without stooping to such gritty levels, y’know. I just feel confused (as usual).

  1. Trina says:

    It’s usually graham crackers.

    • Philly Mom says:

pulverized nilla wafers also make for a sandy looking mess of tastiness.

And cocoa, powdered sugar, (walnuts optional), SPICED RUM…
      refrigerate cookies and enjoy.

      • Eludya says:

Oh god, Nilla wafers, that’s brilliant! I love Nilla wafers, and they always have plenty of crushed up crumbs in the bottom of the bag for a good start too. I remember dumping them on ice cream and it definitely looked like sand or the look you get on deep-fried ice cream.

    • Awesome says:

I’ve seen brown sugar used a lot.

  2. taoist says:

    It’s almost certainly brown sugar.

  3. Smitty says:

    It looks like brown sugar.

  4. Loree says:

I’m thinking either crushed graham crackers or brown sugar (or both).

    • karon says:

i would rather use some ort of crushed cookies. just plain sugar would be too sweet. the cookies would be great. i love the color on this cake, too!

  5. Jane says:

Could be light brown sugar. If I were making this, I would use pulverized graham crackers. Get some tan fondant a little bit wet and sprinkle crumbs on top.

  6. Valerie says:

Nice to know those brown sugar lumps serve a purpose!

  7. Kitkat says:

I’ve done this. It’s def. brown sugar.

  8. melanie says:

It’s probably graham crackers. That is used a lot on cakes to represent sand.

  9. Brooke says:

Tons of people do this for weddings. It’s usually made of very finely crushed nilla wafers or other crushed cookies.

  10. LadyArkham says:

There’s a lot of different ways to make a “sand” look – brown sugar, cookie crumbs, etc… This cake looks delicious and beautiful! I’d be excited to have this if my wedding was seashore-themed.

  11. marie says:

lol its granulated brown sugar :)

  12. Satisfied says:

It was the best tasting cake ever!

    • The Bride says:

Yes it was! Almond cake with amaretto icing! Every part of it was edible and delicious!

      • Amanda says:

It really is a great cake. But… what is the “sand” made of? Don’t just leave us hanging!

        And congratulations!

        • The Bride says:

Thanks! I honestly don’t know what our baker used in the end. It was either graham crackers, nilla wafers, brown sugar or a mix. The day went by so fast I don’t remember. The turrets were a rice crispy treat base. We didn’t get to taste them as the caterer threw them out. : (

          • Me says:

Oh, that’s sad that you never got to eat the turrets. It sounds amazing though. I once decorated a cake that had turrets made of ice cream cones….

          • Spirit of the Princess says:

You should have sued! The caterer has no business throwing any part of a wedding cake away. Couples regularly save the top of the cake for the first anniversary. They should have wrapped it up in something airtight and given it to you, or your mom, or your maid of honor, or… somebody.

  13. Aamber says:

I don’t think that it’s brown sugar… that would be exceptionally hard to do with brown sugar…

    • Smitty says:

Brown sugar would be VERY easy to mold into the little shapes. But, it’s probably just stuck onto dampened fondant. Graham cracker crumbs would work. But, brown sugar would be more sparkly and yummy.

  14. BananaJelly says:

Brown sugar or graham crackers…I don’t care. It should be in my belly! haha

  15. Danielle says:

Usually, “sand” is made of brown sugar, granulated white sugar, and crushed cinnamon graham crackers. It’s pretty good, too.

  16. PrincessAmy says:

I have made a sandy cake by mixing up some cinnamon sugar mixed with just a few crushed up nila wafers (it gives it a non-uniformity) and you pack it on top of icing and voila a sandbox cake!

  17. Irene says:

Yep. It’s brown sugar. I bake and did a beach themed birthday cake one August when we were at the beach on daughter’s birthday. Done properly, it looks like ther real thing!! You need to spread the brown sugar out and let it dry some so it doesn’t clump. Or use Domino’s brownulated.

  18. Comfy Cushion says:

They could also now use fine granulated raw cane sugar

  19. J says:

depending on the texture you’re looking for, brown sugar OR pulverized graham crackers can be used.

  20. Amy says:

It’s brown sugar that they sift and bake first so that it’s lighter in color and not as sticky.

  21. Nora says:

Dude…where did this cake come from…I want it for my wedding. No joke.

  22. Stephanie says:

I love this cake regardless of what it’s made of it’s wonderful looking :)

  23. wendy says:

    that cake looks amazing!!!

  24. [...] can tell the difference between sand and cookie. I mean what kind of idiot can’t do that?!! Wait… Incorrect source or offensive?Tags:beach themed wedding cupcakes, beach-themed wedding cake, Funny [...]

  25. Flossy says:

I was gonna say breadcrumbs. Duh. LOL

  26. Anonymiss says:

Wow… Here’s an idea! Perhaps it’s either graham crackers, nilla wafers or brown sugar.

Oh wait, someone else already said that. Derp.

    *headdesk*

  27. Holly says:
