Funny Wedding Photos - Bride on Bride Action

The submitter says, “This is from my parents wedding in 1978. The photographer did this by layering the negatives I think, but I could be wrong. I do know it is NOT Photoshop.”

Niiice. Who doesn’t want a picture of themselves that looks like this? I want four! I may need to head to my local Walmart Photo Studio now to make a special request. “I want it to look like I’m standing INSIDE my face, plz.”

This was a very popular process in 1978 – yes is was layering the negatives. I have a picutre from my wedding in 1978 that was “layered” But not my face over my face.

what bothers me most about this is the piece of ribbon running through her eye?! *twitching*

my siblings have photos similar to this from when they were little but it is reversed, they are sitting, posed in the bottom and then their own face is sort of looking down at them benevolently. i never understood those pics, i thought they were creepy. like the ghost of yourself looking at you?

Given the title, this photo is a full-on disappointment.

    However, as a pre-Photoshop Photoshop-esque picture, it’s rather cool.

WAY back in 78, before digital, when we used REAL film, we took one oic then wound the film back to that one and took another on top of the first. That meant both had to have 1/2 the light necessary for the final version. It was a real trick. This one is simple and pure. It’s really quite lovely.

I think they also used this sort of technique with school pictures. I was born in the late 70s and my third grade picture was kind of layered. It’s horribly dated and kind of creeps me out. By kind of layered, I mean there’s the regular pic of my face and then another face “floating” off to the side…so odd.

Ah yes- the old “birth of Athena” photo. I think this is how the 2nd Inception movie will end. Leo will break out of his own head.

It is actually a very pretty dress. I bet the bottom is awesome.

It’s about time to remind everyone about why they named Photoshop what they did…

  12. JT says:

Looks like the PTSD Clarinet Kid picture. XD

  13. Spork says:

Since the images are not the same size, I’m pretty sure this would’ve been more than just sandwiching negatives or a double exposure. Traditional darkrooms are capable of more manipulation than a lot of people realize.
    Weegee did some awesome manipulations.

  14. joan says:

looks like one if those weird scene transitions in a movie…

  15. Geoff says:

She must be marrying PTSD Clarinet Kid.

  19. Liz says:

I remember a friend having a photo on the wall of herself and her kids all superimposed inside the sillouette of her husband’s head. I always thought that was REALLY weird. This so reminds me of that– very similar technique– and very weird. I always wondered why the heck you would want something like that. Looked like hubby was getting a serious migrane.

this was actually really common during the time period–I remember coming across a box of engagement/wedding portraits from my parents, aunts and uncles from the late 70′s and they all had that layering done. One of them had my uncles face in profile and his (now ex) wife’s bridal pose (?) in the back of his head. That was weird.

  21. rachel says:

My mother has one exactly like this in her wedding album, only in one of them she’s looking into a small vanity mirror; she did not have that weird doll in the background. Although the photographer was probably nice and picked the angle to keep my grandmother’s porcelain doll collection out of the way. I never liked those things, or that picture style.

  22. MrsBrodd says:

Seriously, Mom’s SO pretty in this pic!!! too cute!!

  23. Firecracker says:

1978 you say? Considering the bride looks like she’s standing inside her own head, I’m wondering what the photographer was on….

  24. Patricia rogers says:
