Powerful Wedding Cake

Feb. 19, 2011

Funny Wedding Photos - Superhero wedding cake

The submitter says, “This wedding cake features superhero logos & such.” Good explanation! I especially like the gold “rope” icing around the base. It might not taste good, but it’s shiny! I kind of feel like overall the cake looks like a parade float. A parade float of awesome.

I Hope That Table is Clean

Funny Wedding Photos - I Hope That Table is Clean

This picture is like one giant collective “NOOOOOOO!!!!” Thankfully, it looks like those smaller lower tiers went unharmed in this classic disaster. The top tiers weren’t as lucky. Pour one out. Top-heavy cakes are never a good idea.

Married by Who?

Feb. 18, 2011

funny wedding photos - doctor who - daleks - new zealand - geek wedding - Married by Who?

A couple in New Zealand decided to express their love for sci-fi by having a Doctor Who wedding. Here they are pictured in front of a replica of the show’s Tardis, or time-traveling police box.

There was even an appearance by the show’s most enduring villains – the evil Daleks whose catch-cry is “exterminate”.

But their dastardly plot to rule the world was momentarily foiled when the radio-controlled Dalek ring-bearer broke down halfway up the aisle.

I’ve been saying it for years, but having robots in your wedding is a win-win situation.
Wedding robots perform according to design: Win.
Wedding robots adorably malfunction: Win.

Triple-win situations occur when you throw animals into the mix.

Be Minecraft

Feb. 18, 2011

funny wedding videos - nerd wedding - video game proposal - minecraft - proposal - be minecraft

I’m wagering there aren’t many proposals that include the line, “we build worlds together.” Makes couples yoga seem slightly insignificant by comparison.
I love it that he wrote “marry me?” in lava. In lava!

“My Big Fat Redneck Wedding”!

Feb. 18, 2011

Funny Wedding Photos - "My Big Fat Redneck Wedding"!

We’ve already seen photos from this amazing reality TV series in the UK, and now we have “My Big Fat Redneck Wedding” on American programming. Something for everyone! From the Herald-Tribune:

The groom wore camouflage.

The bride did, too, with little red shotgun shells poking out of her bouquet.

They married beneath an arch made of mufflers. Their first toast was from a beer funnel. They honeymooned at a Charlotte County mud-bogging camp called the Redneck Yacht Club.

Chris and Jennifer Rodriguez went all out for a reality TV show called “My Big Redneck Wedding,” which airs at 8:30 p.m. Friday on Country Music Television.

Ah, CMT. The network that brings you the best-of-the-best from them redneck parts. Apparently even the inside of the wedding cake was camouflage. That’s dedication.

You May Now Kiss the Frog

Feb. 17, 2011

Funny Wedding Photos - Frog Wedding

I never understand why old news comes through the submit page, but this story from 2009 struck me as particularly post-worthy. Because really, I had no idea that frogs could get married. From the LA Times blog:

A severe rain shortage prompted villagers in the Indian state of West Bengal to fall back on an old tradition — the frog wedding. The villagers pooled their money to pay for the wedding of two frogs named Ram and Sita, named for the two primary characters in the Sanskrit epic the Ramayana.

From Reuters:

Following an ancient Hindu belief, the frogs’ heads were smeared with vermilion paint and the pair were held up in the air in a ritual in front of a traditional clay candle.

“We feted about 3,000 villagers and solemnized the marriage with every single ritual,” Shobin Ray, head of a local council in Madhya Baragari village, about 750 km [470 miles] north of state capital Kolkata, told Reuters by phone.

As part of the ceremony, the nearby river was invited to join the celebration and asked for its blessing of the marriage, according to local custom.

I think this should probably come with a “Don’t try this at home” disclaimer. Those frogs look unenthused.

SOCKS

Feb. 17, 2011

Funny Wedding Photos - SOCKS

What I like most about this picture is the obvious organization that went into it. I’m picturing a massive text exchange wherein each groomsman revealed which pair of socks he’d be wearing, and the conversation went something like this:

Groomsman 1: I’ll be wearing pink socks with red hearts.

Groomsman 2: UM, HEY BRO, those are the socks *I* was going to wear. Way to steal my thunder.

Groomsman 1: Just wear the pair with the blue stripes. Those look great on you.

Groomsman 2: Good point. We’re all gonna look awesome.

*PS: Yes, the title of this post is an homage to the Shoes anthem. I am a nerd.
