My grandparents were married in December 1945, while my grandfather was still in the Navy. He heard he could have leave about 12 days before it began, so my grandmother and her mother had a very short period of time to throw together a wedding. She phoned her girlfriends and said “wear any pastel dress and you’ll be pretty!” The ushers wore whatever their best suit was. Oh, Korea! My friend is the bride and was quick to note that she and her fiance don’t hang-out in this posture. Our Korean friends laughed at how theatrical the pose is while the Americans all snickered and gave each other meaningful looks.
